Chop Hills Classic raises $70K for scholarships

Sixty-two participants from all over the country gathered in the unique landscape southeast of Holyoke for the inaugural Chop Hills Classic. The Ballyneal Foundation hosted the May 10-12 golf tournament at Ballyneal Golf Club to raise money for scholarships.
General manager Dave Hensley said the Chop Hills Classic brought in over $70,000, which will be combined with funds donated by members and guests throughout the year. “The more we raise, the bigger the scholarships can get,” he said.
Over $15,000 was donated in prizes for the tournament, including an $8,000 grand prize vacation package.
Students who work in the golf industry in Colorado or Nebraska are eligible to apply for scholarships, which are renewable for up to four terms. In its first year, the Ballyneal Foundation awarded scholarships to Colby Purkeypile, Brenna Sullivan and Katie Gibson.
