CHSAA to sanction Foundation benefit games

When the CHSAA Board of Directors forwarded a proposal that would allow schools in all sports to play a Foundation benefit game, no one could have dreamed of the impact that these games would have on the membership and their communities.
Recently, Yuma traveled to Kit Carson for a Foundation benefit game between the schools’ volleyball teams.
“It was really exciting. It has been a long time since there were that many people in our gym and that was fun,” Kit Carson High School Athletic Director Sara Crawford said.
“Several states have these types of contests and raise lots of money for community projects and their own programs. CHSAA member schools now have that opportunity,” CHSAA Commissioner Rhonda Blanford-Green said. “As we look at protecting statewide rivalries and understanding the financial situations of our schools, the passage of the Foundation benefit game allows schools to protect these rivalries and raise money for their programs and other causes. These games are a way to rekindle community enthusiasm in the high school athletic arena.”
