City takes over youth soccer; online registration due March 10

Holyoke’s existing youth soccer program was one of the first activities suggested for the city of Holyoke’s new recreation director to take over in early 2017. This April will usher in another year of soccer, this time under the City’s rec department, and online registration is now open.
Kids who turn 5 by April 1 all the way up through seniors in high school can be signed up at goo.gl/forms/KwrykrDv8AWRFzS52. The deadline for registration is Saturday, March 10, and payment can be sent to the rec department at P.O. Box 392, Holyoke, CO 80734 or dropped off at the City office.
All games will be played on Saturdays in April and May, and each team’s practices will be scheduled by its own coaches. Rec director Victoria Timm noted she is currently seeking volunteer coaches.
The three youngest divisions, preschool/kindergarten, grades 1-2, and grades 3-4, will play exclusively in Holyoke against other Holyoke teams. Under 14 (grades 5-7) and under 19 (grades 8-12) will play in the Perkins County league, which included teams from Grant, Ogallala and Imperial, Nebraska, last year. U14 and U19 will travel for competition.
Practices will begin the week of March 19. The first U14 and U19 games are expected to be scheduled for April 7, and for the younger divisions, April 14.
Uniform shirts will be provided for all participants. Shin guards and long socks will be required. Though they don’t need to match the uniform, coordinated shorts, cleats, socks and shin guards are available at holyokerecsoccer18.itemorder.com. The deadline to order gear is also March 10. Late registrations or orders cannot be accepted.
