Decent crowd enjoys midseason races

Crowd numbers have been up since Phillips County Raceway action switched to Fridays this month.

Organizer Joe Bellm with BST Racing said there was a decent crowd at the Friday, June 18, races in Holyoke. He added that they hope to continue to grow the fan base.

Races were all good last week, with some tight racing to add to the excitement. A first-time winner was noted in the sport mods feature race when Tony Acierno took the checkered flag.

Car numbers were down, which is trending throughout the country, Bellm pointed out, explaining that it’s harder to get parts, which adds to the reduced number of cars competing.

Concessions sold out, which is another good indicator of a good crowd.

Bellm is excited about the next PCR races on Friday, July 2, at 7 p.m.

The racing will kick off a three-day CAT tour, as well as Tri-State Tour. PowrI sprints will join the dwarfs, mini mods, UTVs and regular IMCA divisions of modifieds, stocks, sport mods, hobby stocks and compacts.
