Despite being landlocked, local paddleboarder finds fun in the water

Trying to paddleboard in Phillips County seems to be a difficult task, but Sharlene Gordon makes it work.

Going to different bodies of water around Colorado’s northeastern plains and Nebraska, Gordon and her family have been learning how to paddleboard.

Being a lifeguard in high school and a swimmer on a master swim team, Gordon has always had a love for the water.

“I feel like I’m landlocked. I was born to be in the water,” she said.

After joining a paddleboard group on Facebook and watching many videos about the sport, Gordon decided to try it for herself.

Gordon teaches how to get on a paddleboard

With Gordon’s paddleboard, the first step is to inflate it. Using a hand pump, Gordon inflates the entire board in around 5-10 minutes.

To get onto a paddleboard, the first step Gordon takes is to put the board by the bank of the water.

She then sits on top of the board and waits to catch her balance.
