Despite loss to Rams, Holyoke volleyball takes steps in right direction

After facing Merino in a tournament just days before, the Holyoke High School varsity volleyball team was excited for the Sept. 11 rematch at home. Though each of the sets was close, Merino ultimately swept the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19).
It wasn’t the outcome Holyoke was hoping for, but coach Hannah Petersen said she is still optimistic about the season. “We’re taking steps in the right direction,” she said. “It’s just a slow process.”
There are many things the Dragon volleyball team does well, Petersen added, but in coming practices and games, they’re looking to do so more consistently. Coaches and fans alike are excited to see what happens when the necessary adjustments are made.
Tuesday’s game began with a tight set, both teams looking promising. Merino pulled off a 25-21 win, and their momentum carried the Rams from there. In the second set, the Dragons let Merino get away from them for a 25-15 win.
Down two sets, it was clear that Holyoke wasn’t ready to give up the match yet. Teamwide, HHS play was aggressive, but ultimately Merino cinched a third win, 25-19, sweeping the match.
