Dirks qualifies for 3A state golf

Tieing his personal best score of 82 in regional boys golf tournament action Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Collindale in Fort Collins, junior Ty Dirks claimed a qualifying berth in the 3A boys state golf tournament Oct. 4-5 at Spring Valley Golf Club in Elizabeth.

Only three shots back from earning a trip to state last year, Dirks accomplished it this year. He set his personal best score of 82 at the Sept. 3 tourney in Sterling this year and repeated it last week to tie for seventh place in the regional tournament action.

“We are very excited that Ty will be playing in the state tournament,” said coach David Mauler.

As a team, Holyoke scored 279 to tie for ninth out of 18 teams at regionals. Colorado Academy won the tourney with 234, followed by Holy Family 247 and Severance 249.
