Dirks turns in best HHS score at Yuma

Turning in a 96, freshman Ty Dirks led the Dragon golfers at the Yuma tournament Friday, Aug. 16.

Dirks was joined by Mason Vernon, who shot a 105, and Tristen Ferguson, 119, to represent the Dragons in the 10-team varsity tourney.

Junior varsity participants were Ethan Johnson, Ethan Schneller, Jaxson Hutches, Jadon Frost and Cooper Goldenstein.

Frontier Academy’s 247 won the tournament, followed in order by Resurrection Christian, Fort Morgan, Strasburg, Brush, Sterling, Burlington, Yuma, Cheyenne Wells and Holyoke.

It was a huge turnout at Yuma, with 39 varsity golfers and 48 JV competitors for a total of 87.

“It was a very slow round and tested the patience of many,” said coach Nick Flaa. “When golf takes upward of six hours for 18 holes, it’s hard to get into a rhythm,” he added.
