District basketball at NJC Friday and Saturday
High school basketball teams in the Lower Platte Activities Association were scheduled to start district action Tuesday, Feb. 25, with games continuing Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28-29, at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
On the girls side of the bracket, No. 1 Holyoke and No. 2 Yuma got byes on Tuesday. No. 3 Sedgwick County hosted No. 6 Akron, and No. 4 Wray hosted No. 5 Wiggins.
The boys bracket gave No. 1 Yuma and No. 2 Sedgwick County byes on Tuesday. No. 3 Wray hosted No. 6 Akron, and No. 4 Holyoke hosted No. 5 Wiggins.
Semifinals will be played Friday at NJC. Holyoke girls will play the winner of Wray/Wiggins at 3 p.m., followed by Yuma boys versus the winner of Holyoke/Wiggins at 4:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Yuma girls play the winner of Sedgwick County/Akron, followed by Sedgwick County boys versus the winner of Wray/Akron at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the schedule includes the girls third-place game at 4 p.m., the boys third-place game at 5:30 p.m., the girls championship at 7 p.m. and the boys championship at 8:30 p.m.
The four girls teams and the four boys teams competing this weekend have all earned spots at regionals March 6-7.
