District basketball starts Tuesday

Teams in the Lower Platte Activities Association are gearing up for the district tournament, which begins next Tuesday, Feb. 25. Holyoke athletic director John Baumgartner has provided a possible schedule that he is fairly sure will not change, keeping in mind that conference games are wrapping up this week.

On the girls side of the bracket, No. 1 Holyoke and No. 2 Yuma will have byes on Tuesday. No. 3 Sedgwick County will host No. 6 Akron at 6 p.m., and No. 4 Wray will host No. 5 Wiggins at 5:30 p.m.

The boys bracket gives No. 1 Yuma and No. 2 Sedgwick County byes on Tuesday. No. 3 Wray will host No. 6 Akron at 7 p.m., and No. 4 Holyoke will host No. 5 Wiggins at 6 p.m.

Semifinals will be played at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling Friday, Feb. 28. Holyoke girls will play the winner of Wray/Wiggins at 3 p.m., followed by Yuma boys versus the winner of Holyoke/Wiggins at 4:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Yuma girls play the winner of Sedgwick County/Akron, followed by Sedgwick County boys versus the winner of Wray/Akron at 7:30 p.m.

District games will conclude Saturday, Feb. 29, at NJC. The schedule includes the girls third-place game at 4 p.m., the boys third-place game at 5:30 p.m., the girls championship at 7 p.m. and the boys championship at 8:30 p.m.
