Don’t get carded

Holyoke schools have long strived to uphold a high standard of sportsmanship at all sporting events, but this year there will be a new system in place to help that effort. Schools across the state will have yellow and red cards created by CHSAA at their disposal.

As explained by the Colorado High School Activities Association, the cards are a tool that can be used to target unruly fans and communicate poor behavior. Administrators supervising sporting events at Holyoke JR/SR High will be on the lookout for inappropriate behavior.

If given a yellow card, the fan is asked to please rethink their actions. “Your current behavior is contrary to the high level of sportsmanship expected at all events,” it reads. If that fan receives a second card — the red card — they will have to leave the facility.

“By receiving a second card due to your behavior, you are asked to leave the facility,” the red card reads. Furthermore, refusal to leave may result in authorities assisting the request.
