In his new role as course superintendent at Holyoke Golf Club, Don Schelling has returned to the type of work he’s done on and off for about 25 years.
As a high school and college golfer, it made sense that Schelling would begin working at golf courses as soon as he graduated. Some of his first golf course work experiences happened in Hastings, Nebraska, where he worked at both Lochland Country Club and Southern Hills Golf Course before moving to northeastern Nebraska.
Schelling and his wife Kirstin, who live in Haxtun, moved to the area about 15 years ago to be closer to his brother, Doug. Their three children attend Haxtun schools, where Marissa is a senior, Ciera a sophomore and Kaiden a sixth-grader. For about three years, Schelling worked at the Northeastern 18 golf course in Sterling.
