Dragon baseball continues to see improvement
Although the Dragons lost two games to Wray on Thursday, May 13, and two to Sedgwick County on Saturday, May 15, coach Sherman Kage noted improvements in the way the team is playing.
“It’s becoming more of a desire of the kids to win,” he said. “The improvement they’re making — not just game by game but play by play — is just a wonderful thing to see.”
He noted that the players’ mental game and knowledge of what to do with the ball when it’s hit to them is getting better, and he’s seeing improvement both defensively and offensively.
“They’re identifying pitches, seeing the ball better, taking walks and not swinging at everything,” Kage said.
He added that the biggest thing they’re working on is understanding the mental side of the game, calming their nerves and settling down.
“Knowledge breeds confidence,” he said. He pointed out that pitchers are getting more time on the mound and understanding that they don’t have to play this game by themselves, but they have a defense behind them to help win games.
