Dragon boys to play Sat., March 4, in regionals

After achieving District 2 runner-up honors, HHS boys basketball earn a bye for the first round of regional play and will play the winner of the Friday, March 3, Byers-John Mall matchup Saturday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Mullen High School. The winner will advance to state competition.

Regional play statewide consists of eight pods of three teams. The east region is made up of districts 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 for five pods qualifying five teams for state, while the west region is made up of districts 1, 3 and 5 for three pods qualifying three teams for state. The top regional seeds earned byes in each pod.

In each district, the top three teams qualified for regionals. Sedgwick County and Akron also qualified from District 2 and both also earned byes.

Sedgwick County will play the winner of Friday’s Ellicott-Burlington game Saturday, March 4, at Mullen High School at 12:30 p.m.

Akron will play the winner of Friday’s Crowley County-Simla matchup Saturday at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs.
