Although the Dragons lost 41-15 and were eliminated from the playoffs, they ended the season with a 5-2 record. Dragon defeat at Limon ends football season

Holyoke Dragon football came to an end this season after a 41-15 loss to the No. 1 Limon Badgers in the state quarterfinals Saturday, Nov. 21. The Dragons ended their season with a 5-2 record.

Holyoke opened up scoring for the day, taking a 7-0 lead in the closing minutes of the first quarter, but the Badgers were able to respond with four consecutive touchdowns of their own.

Holyoke scored a second touchdown in the waning moments of the first half, but they were unable to score again in the second half, setting up Limon for a matchup with No. 4 Wray in the state semifinals scheduled Saturday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. Wray beat No. 5 Hotchkiss 38-13 Saturday to earn their berth in the semifinals.

Coach Dusty Sprague said he is really proud of the team and the way they adapted to the changes a different kind of season brought.

“They played their hearts out,” he said. “I’m very proud of their effort and the way they battled through everything 2020 has thrown their way.”

Sprague added that he’s thankful for everything the seniors on the team did this season. He noted that the team is losing three seniors, and he is excited for next year  with so many players returning, and he said he looks forward to the team continuing to work hard and get better.
