Dragon offense lights up in Yuma

Holyoke Dragon softball offense came alive Tuesday, Sept. 29, sweeping the Yuma Indians 20-3 and 23-5.

Holyoke bats were unbeatable in both games, and players showed patience at the plate, driving the ball hard for extra bases and taking advantage of walks.

Holyoke got out to a fast start with a walk, single, two doubles and a triple in the top of the first, scoring four runs before Yuma could record the first out of the game. After Elyce Talavera stole home, the Dragons took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the first.

Haley Van Overbeke was the starting pitcher for the Dragons, netting three strikeouts in the bottom of the first and allowing a run to come home on a double.

The Dragons scored another run in the second inning and kept the Indians scoreless when they came to bat.

Holyoke bats stayed hot in the third and fourth innings. In the third, they knocked eight hits in a row, two for extra bases, before Yuma was able to get an out. Holyoke scored eight runs in the third and kept Yuma from getting any offense going when they came to the plate.

In the top of the fourth inning, Holyoke scored six more runs, taking advantage of four walks, two doubles and a single.
