Dragon track and field team led by 23 letterwinners

Holyoke High School’s track and field team will be welcoming back 23 letterwinners this year, out of 24 girls and 25 boys participating.
The Holyoke and Dragon invitationals — at 9 a.m. on Saturdays, March 30 and April 6, respectively — will give locals the chance to cheer on the team. The Dragons’ first meet will take place this Saturday, March 23, at 9 a.m. in Yuma.
Coach Corey Koberstein said the 2019 team includes all but one of the state competitors and alternates from last year, as well as Holyoke’s 2018 All-Conference picks. It’s also stacked with new talent, including 21 freshmen.
“Some of those kids, in junior high, actually got state-qualifying marks,” he said. “We have a great group of kids returning and a huge group coming in.”
Returning letterwinners include seniors Jillian Hunter, Jacky Mosqueda, Jessy Mosqueda and Emma Roll; juniors Lauren Bergner, Luis Chafino, Josie Herman, Emily Jelden (back after an injury that took her out of the 2018 season), Blake Mosenteen, Victoria Race, Michael Ramos, Miguel Soto, Taeryn Trumper and Shianne Willmon; and sophomores Joey Beckner, Jalen Hunter, Yeidi Juarez, Rylee Oakley, Kylie Purkeypile, Ashley Rahe, Aaron Sierra, Alec Sprague and Emali Torres.
Other team members include senior Isaiah Gifford; junior Alexis Vega; sophomores Ethan Andersen, Marcus Case and Shyanne Conde; and freshmen Jaime Avila, Anna Chaney, Juan Diaz, Levi Ford, Ruby Granados, Lauren Herman, Kyleigh Jaeger, Ethan Johnson, Cade Killin, Kaison Kinnie, Correy Koellner, Carlos Legaretta, Emma Oakley, Wendy Chaparro Rangel, Johny Quintana, Aidyn Shafer, Gage Sprague, Miles Sprague, Emmanuel Vasquez, Mason Vernon and Kristin Vieselmeyer.
