Dragons annihilate Wiggins Tigers

Even a cursory review of the Oct. 19 game at Wiggins makes it clear that Holyoke High School football team has grown into a well-rounded force. Blake Mosenteen got the Dragons off to a strong start, running in three touchdowns in the first quarter, but HHS followed up with several touchdown passes and PAT kicks, as well as a field goal, a two-point conversion and near impenetrable defense. Ultimately, Holyoke won 52-6.
Rather than relying on any one of their powerful players, the unique strengths of all the individual Dragons tend to shine through on this year’s team.
The pride was apparent as coach Dusty Sprague recounted how well the team executed and played together in Wiggins. An early and substantial Dragon lead meant that every single visiting player got into the game. At one point, Sprague looked to the field and saw eight or nine freshmen out there, and they were moving the ball.
In Friday’s contest, Mosenteen returned the opening kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown and a 6-0 lead right off the bat. With 3:47 left in the quarter, the Tigers managed a TD of their own, tying the game for a short while before the Dragons took the lead back and never let it go.
Mosenteen scored his second touchdown with the clock at 3:34. The 70-yard run was followed by a two-point conversion by Seth Watson, and HHS extended its lead to 14-6.
With just 12 seconds left in the first quarter, Mosenteen ran in a 65-yard touchdown. Paired with a successful PAT kick by Alexis Vega, it took the score to 21-6.
