Dragons beat Burlington, head to the playoffs

With a 28-7 win over Burlington last Saturday afternoon, the Holyoke football team earned the ninth seed in the upcoming Class 1A playoffs.

The Dragons will play at eighth seeded Monte Vista Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Monte Vista suffered its only loss of the season last Friday against Centauri, who went on to earn the seventh seed in the playoffs. Other teams from Monte Vista’s schedule making the playoffs are Gunnison, 10th seed, and Colorado Springs Christian, 13th seed.

Holyoke has played six playoff bound teams this season, including the top three seeds, Limon, Strasburg and Wiggins. Yuma is the fifth seed, Wray is the sixth seed and Burlington enters the playoffs as the 15th seed.

Against Burlington, Holyoke dodged a bullet when the Cougars missed a field goal on the game’s opening drive.
