Dragons boast 4 finals events at state swim

In eight of the 12 events, Holyoke High School was represented in preliminaries at the 2018 Girls 3A State Swimming Championships on Feb. 8 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton.
Only those finishing in the top 16 went on to finals Feb. 9, and Holyoke still had four events in the running by day two. It was a perfect ending to a winning season, coach Aly Brinkema said.
At state, swimmers placing ninth through 16th in prelims advance to the second day of competition for the B finals, where they compete against each other for ninth through 16th place overall.
Holyoke’s swimmers who placed in the B finals were:
    —Rylee Schneller, 11th, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:13.15; and 13th, 200-yard individual medley, 2:25.50.
    —Regan Van Overbeke, 16th, 500-yard freestyle, 5:50.88.
—Haley Van Overbeke, Traeli Hutches, Regan Van Overbeke and Schneller, 15th, 400-yard freestyle relay, 4:01.78.
