Dragons fall to Haxtun and Limon, ready to move forward positively
Dragon boys found themselves in a big hole to crawl out of in both weekend games that started the 2019 portion of the basketball season. In both games, they came back strong but nonetheless suffered two losses.
Hosting Haxtun Friday, Jan. 11, the Dragons suffered a 48-56 loss. The final score was almost identical to Haxtun’s 56-49 win over Holyoke on Dec. 14.
At NJC Saturday, Jan. 12, HHS faced Limon, dropping a 57-60 ballgame on a final-second 3-pointer from the Badgers.
“As always, it was not fun to lose, but I feel like we have a lot to build on from the effort and confidence that was built in the game with Limon,” coach Marcus Kammer said.
“District games begin this week, so our second season starts Friday,” Kammer added. “We will be ready to get some district wins and continue to grow as a team and family.”

Friday-night action got off to a slow start both defensively and offensively for the Dragons, as the Bulldogs soared to a 23-8 first-quarter lead.
“The first game after a break is always a tough one to get in rhythm, and that was true Friday,” Kammer said.
“After the first five minutes of the game, I really believe we put together some good effort and looked like a team that wanted to fight and claw for a win,” he added.
