Dragons fall in homecoming match with No. 1 Wiggins

The homecoming atmosphere wasn’t quite enough to help the Holyoke volleyball team get over the hump and take down Wiggins (14-1) Friday night, Oct. 7. The Dragons were swept by Class 2A’s top team.

Holyoke gave the Tigers all they wanted in the first set. The Dragons grabbed a lead with the help of an Audrey Talavera ace. The 15-13 advantage disappeared, but Holyoke bounced back to tie the set at 19-19. The Dragons were unable to regain the lead and lost the set 21-25.

Holyoke took an 11-10 lead in the second set until a huge run by Wiggins swung the set back in the Tigers’ favor. Trailing 20-11, the Dragons went on a 7-1 to keep themselves in the set. Holyoke closed the gap to 20-23 but lost the set 20-25.
