Dragons falter against remarkable Caliche and Haxtun pitching

Last week was a disheartening one for Holyoke High School baseball. On March 27, the Dragons lost a pair of games at home to Caliche. The first game was a 7-0 shutout. Though HHS managed to get on the board in the second game, Caliche still outscored them 18-7.
A doubleheader in Haxtun that had been scheduled for March 31 was moved up one day. In the first game March 30, Haxtun won a low-scoring game 2-0. They narrowly won again in the second game, 9-8.
Stats from last week’s games were unavailable at the time of publication.

Holyoke 0, Caliche 7

In Tuesday’s first game, Caliche scored a run early on and sat at a 1-0 lead for three innings. In the top of the fourth, they scored another. They scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and added one more in the final inning, bringing their total to seven runs.
All the while, HHS struggled against the Caliche pitcher, who struck out 18 batters. Despite a few promising at-bats, the Dragons never did manage to score, and Caliche won 7-0.
Pitching for Holyoke were Caleb Deaver, Blake Mosenteen and Jesus Trejo.
