Dragons have 3-1 week on the diamond

After a week with double headers against Chase County, Nebraska and Yuma County, the Holyoke softball team can take a deep breath and prepare itself for the upcoming postseason.

Travel to CCS

The week got off to a rocky start in Imperial where Holyoke split a double header with Chase County. The Dragons swept CCS (6-18) Aug. 30.

The Longhorns shocked everyone with 13 hits in game one. Holyoke trailed 0-10, but scored one run in each the fourth and fifth innings to start building momentum for the second game.

Schlachter said Holyoke started off super slow the game, just couldn’t find their groove.

The Dragons finished the game with six hits, including two each from Emma Thompson and Fatima Nunez.

Aliyah Engle pitched three innings, walking one and striking out four. Parker Steggs came on for an inning of relief.

Yuma County Saturday

The Dragons wrapped up their regular season with a trip to Yuma County.

Schlachter said Yuma County, a first year co-op between Yuma and Wray, always has the potential to sneak up on the Dragons.

Holyoke got off on the right foot offensively, putting up three runs in the first inning. The teams traded runs throughout the first three innings and the Dragons held a 12-6 lead going into the fourth.

Yuma County cut into the Holyoke lead with three runs in the fourth inning, but Holyoke responded with three runs in the fifth to lead 15-8.

The offenses continued to score runs over the final two innings, trading three runs each in the sixth inning, while Holyoke out scored Yuma County 3-1 in the seventh.
