Dragons host 1 dual for the season

In Holyoke’s only home action for the 2019-20 season, the Dragon wrestlers hosted Sedgwick County/Fleming on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The visitors won the dual, 33-18.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, five Dragons competed in the Stratton Invitational.

HHS was 1-3 in the four matches that were actually wrestled against Sedgwick County/Fleming.

Luis Chafino pinned Fabian Lopez in the 195-lb. weight class for the Dragon victory. Chafino wrestled two weights heavier than his normal 170-lb. class in order to meet SC/F’s No. 1 wrestler.

“He did a great job, and it was a good confidence booster for him,” said coach Dusty McConnell of Chafino’s win.

While Holyoke won two matches by forfeit in which Sedgwick County/Fleming had no wrestler, the Dragons also gave up three matches to forfeit. Both teams were open in five weight classes.
