While golfers endured windy conditions at the Holyoke High School Invitational on Friday, Aug. 28, the wind didn’t get in the way for many.

Braden Wedel of Stratton, who played for Burlington last year, won yet another event, this time by eight shots, with a two over par 74. Jack Bornhoft of Sterling finished second in the varsity event with an 82.

In fact, Sterling claimed the team title with three players in the top 10.

Holyoke was led by Ty Dirks, who finished in a tie for eighth with an 89. “He played one of his best, most complete rounds to date as a Holyoke golfer,” said coach Nick Flaa. His scorecard had two pars, 15 bogeys and one double bogey for the day.

“Ty really set himself up nicely with a solid ball-striking performance. But he couldn’t have posted the number he did without some strong efforts around the green,” Flaa added.
