Dragons look to lock up home court for regionals

With the end of the regular season quickly approaching, the Holyoke volleyball team split matches with Fleming and Yuma last week.

The Dragons traveled to Fleming on Oct. 18 and lost 12-25, 12-25, 18-25 to Class 1A’s seventh-ranked team.

Never able to get their feet under them, the Dragons only held serve twice in each of the first two sets. Holyoke had more luck in the third set, but was outscored 2-9 during a stretch that proved to be the difference in the match.

Holyoke picked up a 3-1 at home against Yuma on Oct. 21, avenging a Sept. 24 sweep at the hands of the Yuma team.

The Dragons had five aces through its first 12 points to open up a 12-7 lead. That margin expanded to a 25-19 win.

In the second set, Holyoke’s seven-point lead shrunk to two points, 18-16, before the Dragons closed out the set 25-21.

Yuma turned the tables on Holyoke in the third set, using a seven-point run to open up a comfortable margin. The Dragons lost the set 17-25.

Holyoke bounced back to take the match with a close win in the fourth set. After holding a two- or three-point lead for most of the set, the Dragons fell behind 20-21. Holyoke came back to hold a 24-23 lead before taking the set 26-24.

Elise Krogmeier and Anessa Colglazier finished with double-digit kills, 16 and 11, respectively.

Holyoke won the serving battle with 10 aces to Yuma’s eight.
