Dragons perform at their best in regular-season finale at Burlington

Taeryn Trumper breaks her own long jump record twice

While weather cancellations and postponements have plagued scheduled track meets, the regular season ended on a good note for HHS at the Burlington Invitational Friday, May 11.
A lot of personal bests in a lot of events were earned by the Dragon tracksters, said coach Corey Koberstein, leading to state-qualifying performances, as well as personal satisfaction.
“With all kids performing at their best is a good way to end the regular season and head to state,” said Koberstein.
Sophomore Taeryn Trumper had two more record-breaking efforts in the long jump Friday, resulting in a first-place finish. She also won first in the 400-meter dash.
A few weeks ago, the sophomore had a wind-aided jump over 18 feet. Another jump at that same meet was not wind-aided, and the 17-foot-6-inch mark broke Trumper’s own 17-foot-5-inch HHS record from the state track meet last year.
Koberstein said Taeryn had her eye set on that 18-foot mark and was off to a good start last Friday. On her second jump of the day, she marked 17-feet-6.5-inches to break the HHS record.
On her third jump, she sailed to 18-feet-2-inches to once again break her own school record and achieve her 18-foot goal. “We didn’t let her jump her fourth attempt and just told her to go get ready for her 100,” said Koberstein, pleased for her accomplishment.
