Dragons to play football this fall

On again, off again, on again. The status of high school football this fall keeps changing, but as of Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, the sport was approved for Season A.

Holyoke School District announced this week that the Dragons will be playing this fall.

Colorado High School Activities Association’s board of directors voted 12-3 last Wednesday to approve variances from the governor’s COVID response team to provide member schools with the local option to play the outdoor sports of field hockey, football and sideline spirit during the fall (Season A).

Schools will continue to have the option to play these sports in Season C, as previously upheld by the board, if they elect not to play during Season A. The seasons will be treated equitably. Schools may not play in both seasons.

Holyoke Activities Director John Baumgartner said all North Central Conference football teams, including Holyoke, have opted to play this fall. Other league schools include Yuma, Wray, Wiggins, Burlington, Limon and Highland.
