Dragons rout Tigers Friday

On the road Feb. 2, Holyoke High School boys basketball added another conference win to their season, 60-33 over Wiggins.
Dragon energy was evident, but in the first quarter of action it did not look like the game would be as much of a blowout as it ended up being. Holyoke hit two-point shots from the field here and there, but Wiggins was doing the same, plus making free throws and a nice 3-pointer. By the time the first period was over, the score was tied at 12.
“After the first quarter ended, our defensive rotations were great,” coach Scott Dille said, and the change paid off. In the second quarter, Wiggins managed only three points. HHS, on the other hand, came alive, racking up 23 points. On offense, they saw a lot more success from the foul line, and shots from the field kept dropping.
Subsequent quarters were closer, but Holyoke still outscored Wiggins in each of them and kept their lead. In the third period, the Dragons scored 14 and Wiggins 10, bringing the score to 49-25. In the final quarter, HHS posted 11 for Wiggins’ eight, for a 60-33 win.
