Dragons show range in 48-37 win over Perkins Co. Plainsmen

In last week’s competition, Holyoke High School boys varsity basketball went 1-1. Both games were played at home. On Jan. 28, HHS beat the Perkins County Plainsmen 48-37. It was one of those games in which all the preparations seemed to click, and the Dragons played together smoothly as a team.

On Jan. 31, Yuma took an early lead, and Holyoke never had a chance to catch up. In the end, the visitors won 60-38.

After traveling from Grant, Nebraska, for last Tuesday’s contest, the Plainsmen proved to be no match for Holyoke’s outside shooting. In the first quarter alone, the Dragons put up three 3-pointers and had a 14-6 lead going into the second period, which ended up being a close one. Both teams posted 13 points, including one 3 each. HHS still led 27-19 at the half.

Back for the third quarter, the Dragon defense held Perkins County to just five points. Adding eight of its own, Holyoke extended the lead to 35-24. The final quarter was another close one, with each team adding 13 points to the board, but HHS came out on top 48-37.

Miles Sprague led the Dragons in both shooting and rebounding. He made 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and pulled down 12 rebounds. Ethan Johnson contributed 13 points to the team’s total. HHS shot 100% from the free throw line, as Kaison Kinnie made the one foul shot the team was allowed. Perkins County shot 46% from the line, making six of 13.
