Dragons shut out Caliche in Saturday’s Pink Out

Featuring pink jerseys and a commitment to shine a light on breast cancer awareness, Holyoke’s Sept. 29 Pink Out game was made even sweeter when the Dragons shut out Caliche and claimed the win. The final score in Saturday’s game was 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-13).
In addition to volleyball, the afternoon featured a silent auction, baked goods and various Pink Out wares for sale. The efforts by the volleyball team and the Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation raised a combined $1,024 for the MMH mammography program.
Watching Saturday’s game, one never would have known that HHS suffered a devastating loss to Yuma just the night before. The Dragons moved on gracefully, taking advantage of a fresh start against Caliche. The girls were aggressive and played with an intensity that wasn’t there the day before, said coach Hannah Petersen.
Each of the three sets saw an overwhelming victory for HHS. In the first, Caliche managed to score only six points. In the second set, the Buffaloes reached double digits before Holyoke reached 25 for a slightly closer game. In the third and final set of the afternoon, the Dragons pulled ahead 25-13 for the victory.
