Dragons split with Dolores Huerta
In first-time competition with the Dolores Huerta Preparatory Spartans from Pueblo, Holyoke baseball split in a doubleheader on the Dragon field Saturday, April 27. The visitors earned a 4-2 first-game win, while HHS nabbed the second game, 4-1.
“I thought we gave a gutty performance Saturday, as we were not 100% physically as a team,” coach Sam Distefano said.
Holyoke 2, Dolores Huerta 4
Holyoke scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning Saturday and maintained the lead until the sixth when the visiting Spartans turned the tide.
Seth Watson’s steal of home was a key play in the first inning, noted Distefano. Caleb Deaver also crossed home plate to put the Dragons on top 2-0 early.
But that’s the last the Dragons saw action on the scoreboard in game number one. Dolores Huerta scored its first run in the fourth inning, then added three in the sixth to jump ahead 4-2, where the game ended.
