Dragons split doubleheader in Wiggins

Getting out ahead of the weekend blizzard, Holyoke High School baseball traveled to Wiggins last Thursday, April 12, for a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for April 14. The two ended up splitting the doubleheader, with Wiggins winning the first 11-8 and Holyoke the second game 7-0.
Despite a discouraging streak of losses, HHS has continued to work hard and finally saw their efforts pay off with another win. “I feel we are continuing to make growth and bring our play to a consistent level,” coach Sam Distefano said. “The team did a great job implementing things we focused on during practice into the game.”
Due to the moisture remaining after the weekend snow, the April 16 home game against Calhan was canceled.

Holyoke 8, Wiggins 11
What started out promising ultimately ended in defeat for the Holyoke Dragons in their first game April 12.
HHS scored two runs in the first inning, taking an early lead and holding Wiggins to a single run in the bottom of the first. Holyoke defense kept Wiggins from scoring in second, third, fourth and fifth innings. During their turns at bat, the Dragons three more runs in the third and another in the fourth, extending their lead to 6-1.
In a shocking turn, Wiggins racked up 10 runs in the sixth inning, overtaking the Dragons 11-6. In the top of the seventh, HHS managed two more, but ended up losing 11-8.
