Dragons sweep Akron, move back into ratings

The Holyoke volleyball team took a convincing sweep at Akron on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The Dragons forced sideouts on Akron’s first five rotations and jumped out to a 17-5 lead. Holyoke took the first set win 25-15.

The second set was tied 9-9 before Audrey Talavera served the Dragons to a huge 12-0 run that included six aces. Holyoke won the set 25-11.

In the third set, it was Sabryn Burris serving when Holyoke scored 10 straight points en route to a 25-12 win.

Dragons’ head coach Irene Ortega said the match was a good opportunity to try new ways to serve.

“They all did very well being aggressive servers,” she said. The Dragons had 14 aces in the match.

Ortega said Holyoke tried some new plays with the offense, so it was a good learning opportunity.

“This gave the girls an opportunity to find their rhythm in different scenarios. Like every game, there is always room to grow and continue to work on the fundamentals,” Ortega said.
