Dragons sweep Merino doubleheader, fall to Yuma

    Traveling to Merino last Tuesday, April 24, Holyoke baseball won both games. The first was a close one with a final score of 6-5. The second game, however, was over after five short innings with a score of 12-1.
    On the road again April 28, HHS lost both games against Yuma. The first was a 9-0 shutout, but Yuma won the second just 4-1.
    
Holyoke 6, Merino 5
    In the first game, Holyoke and Merino were rather evenly matched. HHS scored just one run in the first inning, and Merino remained scoreless. After neither scored in the second, the third inning saw Merino pull ahead 3-1.
    HHS tied it up in the fourth, then pulled ahead by one run in the fifth. In the sixth, the Dragons extended their lead to 5-3, but Merino managed two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie up the game.
    In the final inning, Holyoke edged Merino out, winning 6-5.
    Though a mild game in terms of score, HHS boasted a couple of big hits. Seth Watson hit a home run, a double and a single. Blake Mosenteen also hit a home run. Alexis Vega, Luis Chafino, Slaten Burris, Omar Millan and Caleb Deaver each hit a single. Burris also managed to steal a base.
    Mosenteen pitched 5.2 innings, facing 29 batters. He struck out 10, walked six and allowed two hits and five earned runs. Mauro Morales pitched 1.1 innings. He faced just four batters and struck out one.
