Dragons wrap up regular-season football in 19-13 loss to Limon

Though Limon football players remained undefeated after hosting Holyoke last Friday, Oct. 26, the Dragons gave them a run for their money, the likes of which the Badgers had yet to see this season. Accustomed to winning games by 30-some points, Limon saw a relatively narrow 19-13 victory over Holyoke.
The powerful Dragon defense that Holyoke fans have come to expect was present as usual, but the offense showed up in a big way, too, as most of the Badger opponents this year haven’t even managed to make it into the double digits.
A few minutes into Friday’s first quarter, Holyoke drew first blood. Miles Sprague threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Seth Watson. Though the extra point was no good, the Dragons took a 6-0 lead with 8:44 on the clock. The Dragons held on to the lead for most of the quarter, but with 1:25 remaining, Limon ran in a TD and made the PAT kick for a 7-6 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Badgers ran in another touchdown at the 7:23 mark. An attempted kick was subsequently blocked by Jesus Trejo, keeping the score at 13-6, where it remained through the half.
Holyoke kept things interesting in the second half. Michael Ramos made an interception with 4:28 left in the third quarter. Sprague went on to make a 2-yard touchdown run, and a clutch PAT kick by Alexis Vega tied the game with 2:16 left in the quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, it was still anybody’s game, and the Dragons kept up their aggressive tactics. Less than a minute in, Luis Chafino responded quickly to recover a fumble forced by Blake Mosenteen. Both teams fought to protect their end zones, but Limon made it through for another TD at the 4:22 mark. Slaten Burris stopped the attempted two-point conversion, but the 19-13 Limon lead was enough for the home team to win the game.
