Experienced swim team begins season with Valley Invitational
As usual, the Holyoke High School girls swim team will begin their season at the Valley Invitational in Gilcrest this Saturday, Dec. 2, starting at 9 a.m. The team of 13 is again coached by Adria Colver and Aly Brinkema. On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the team will compete in the league relays in Windsor at 4 p.m. It is, Colver explained, a fun event before getting into some serious competition for the rest of the season.
Seven returning letterwinners leading the team in the 2017-18 season are seniors Anna Jelden, Regan Van Overbeke and Juli Hernandez of Sedgwick County; and sophomores Brenna Gatton, Traeli Hutches, Lali Marquez and Jackie Valenzuela.
At last year’s Colorado 3A state meet, Marquez competed in the 100-yard butterfly and the 50-yard freestyle and Van Overbeke in the 500-yard freestyle. Jelden, Marquez and Van Overbeke swam with Emily Krogmeier in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays as well.
