Football suffers tough loss
Holyoke endured a tough 40-7 loss on the road in their first league game of the season against Burlington Friday, Sept. 29.
Even after Marvin Canitz’s two interceptions and one fumble recovery, Slaten Burris’ two nice PAT blocks and Jesus Trejo’s fumble recovery, the Dragon offense could not put the points on the board for Holyoke.
Coach Dusty Sprague said the team made a couple mistakes early in the game which led to some scores. “You just can’t make those kind of mistakes against a team of Burlington’s caliber,” said Sprague.
Burlington dominated the first quarter putting up a 13-0 lead after recovering a Dragon fumble and later intercepting a Holyoke pass.
Holyoke scored on a 59-yard pass from Blake Mosenteen to Canitz early in the second quarter and Alexis Vega kicked the PAT.
A mere 31 seconds before halftime, the Cougars found the Dragon end zone again and scored a two-point conversion to take a 21-7 halftime lead.
