Girls are league champs
The Lady Dragon varsity basketball team earned the right to be called league champions for the third year in a row.
The girls finished the regular season 18-1 and head into the district tournament this weekend in the No. 1 seed as well as the top 2A ranking in the state, according to the latest coaches poll on chsaanow.com.
Coach John Baumgartner told the team that this week its record is now 0-0 because the postseason is anyone’s game. He said they’re looking for seven more games this season, which would take them all the way to the state championship.
No. 1 Holyoke got a bye in the first round of districts and did not have to play Tuesday evening, Feb. 22. Their first district game will be at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling on Friday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday’s No. 5 Akron vs. No. 4 Wray game.
