Girls beat Wray for No. 3

    Dragon gym was alive with energy last Friday as Holyoke’s varsity girls rallied for a big win over Wray in their last regular game of the season.
    It was a crucial win, giving the Lady Dragons the No. 3 seed and a chance to host the first round of the district tournament.
    On Tuesday, Oct. 24, HHS hosted Holyoke vs. Sedgwick County (No. 8), followed by Wray (No. 6) vs. Sedgwick County and Holyoke vs. Wray. Results will be reported in next week’s Enterprise.
    Also on Tuesday, Merino (No. 4) hosted Wiggins (No. 5) and Akron (No. 7).
    The top two teams — one from the Holyoke tourney and one from the Merino tourney — advanced to the district finals Thursday, Oct. 26, in Yuma beginning at 3 p.m.
    Yuma (No. 1) will play the lowest seed from Tuesday’s pool play at 3 p.m., followed by Haxtun (No. 2) playing the highest seed at 4:30 p.m.
    At 6 p.m., the loser from game 1 will play the loser of game 2. The last game of the night will start at 7:30 p.m. with the winner from game 1 against the winner from game 2.
    Three teams will move on to the regional tournament Saturday, Nov. 4.
    
Teams ranked using RPI
    According to Colorado High School Activities Association’s rating percentage index, Holyoke was ranked No. 29 among Colorado 2A volleyball teams after the end of the regular season. Their overall record was 12 wins and seven losses.
    Three teams in the district were ranked in the top 10: Yuma (No. 1), Wiggins (No. 5) and Haxtun (No. 9).
    Holyoke finished the regular season with five wins and three losses in district action.
