Girls claim No. 1 spot
Last week, only two games separated the Holyoke High School girls basketball team from an undefeated regular season. The Lady Dragons came from behind to clench a thrilling win in Burlington on Tuesday, March 2, and on Friday, March 5, they defeated notoriously hard-to-beat Limon at home.
All their hard work has paid off. Holyoke was seeded No. 1 on the Colorado 2A state playoff bracket using four data points determined by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
A 14-0 regular season record is quite an accomplishment, but coach John Baumgartner was quick to point out that “it’s a free for all now.” All 24 teams in the bracket got a fresh start when the first round of playoffs kicked off Tuesday, March 9.
Holyoke got a bye for the first round. The Lady Dragons will host their Sweet 16 game Thursday, March 11, at 6 p.m. with the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 16 Lotus School For Excellence and No. 17 Hotchkiss.
