Girls end week with huge Wiggins win

Holyoke High School girls basketball wrapped up a successful week with a matchup against Wiggins last Saturday, Feb. 2, outmaneuvering the Tigers for a 61-23 win.
Coach John Baumgartner said the girls wasted no time in applying pressure to Wiggins and maintained their intensity throughout the game.
“I thought Saturday night we couldn’t have played a better first half,” he said. “We really played well and got a lot of people involved in the game.”
The Dragons put up a whopping 40 points in the first half, nearly three times their opponent’s total, and kept Wiggins in single digits for the rest of the game to end 38 points ahead.
A brisk first quarter saw Holyoke score 15 to Wiggins’ six, setting up a 25-point second quarter where seven Dragons put up points.
Entering the second half at a 26-point disadvantage, Wiggins continued to struggle against the Dragon defense, even as Holyoke had an uneventful third quarter. The game closed out with Holyoke the clear winner, 61-23.
Eleven girls made the scoring column, led by Taeryn Trumper with 18. She and Lauren Herman led in rebounds with five apiece. Kaylee Camblin, Victoria Race and Taylor Trumper led steals with two. Emily Jelden led assists with seven.
