Girls golf team excited about high level of interest

A dozen girls are eager to hit the course this year as girls golf season tees off.

Coach Nick Flaa and assistant coach Marcia Dalton are excited about the interest in golf this year, and they feel the team has a lot of potential.

The girls are led by juniors Emma Thompson, Erin Andersen and Grace Roberts. All three are returning letterwinners. Thompson and Andersen qualified for the state tournament last year, and Roberts was a state alternate qualifier. Juniors Jimena Nuñez of Holyoke and Grace Gibson of Haxtun are also returning letterwinners.

Flaa said this team’s potential is very high. With no seniors on the team, it will likely look much the same next year.

He said the mindset the team has taken over the years is that development is the priority, and with development comes winning.

“The truth is that winning is not about performing better than others,” Flaa said. “It is performing to our highest abilities and enjoying the process.”
