Girls head into 2018 6-0
Lady Dragon varsity basketball had a busy weekend traveling to Haxtun Friday, Dec. 15, and hosting Sedgwick County Saturday, Dec. 16. Winning both games, the Dragons head into the holiday break with a 6-0 record.
Holyoke 44, Haxtun 32
Both teams held a solid start to Friday’s game with Emily Jelden netting a 3-pointer and Grace Dille and Kaylee Camblin scoring four points each for an 11-10 lead. Haxtun’s top scorer, Marissa Schelling put up six of the Bulldogs’ 10 points.
The Dragons kept a steady pace in the second quarter with Taeryn Trumper getting into her grove racking up eight of the team’s 12 points. Haxtun hung in there to put up another 10, but it wasn’t enough as Holyoke maintained their lead 23-20 at the half.
Holyoke remained consistent in the third quarter matching Haxtun’s 10 points. The Bulldogs’ Molly Brown scored a trey while Schelling added another five points. Dille and Trumper put up four each while Jelden added two.
In fourth quarter action, the Dragons kept their momentum going, scoring another 11 points while Haxtun only managed a 2-pointer. Holyoke defeated the Bulldogs 44-32.
Trumper led in scoring with 17 points and Dille recorded a double double in the game with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Jelden helped with five steals and six assists.
Neither team committed many fouls in the game as there were very few trips to the charity stripe. Holyoke went one for three while Haxtun was one for four from the line.
