Girls start season with loss to Haxtun

Holyoke High School’s varsity volleyball team recorded a loss in Haxtun in their season opener Friday, Aug. 30.

Haxtun started off with two set wins: 25-15 and 25-17. Holyoke rallied to win the third 25-19 but lost the fourth 9-25.

“There’s going to be a learning curve,” said coach Michelle Vieselmeyer. It’s a fairly new team with only three returning varsity players, she added. “We need to build on this.”

“It wasn’t Haxtun who beat us, we beat ourselves,” said Vieselmeyer, pointing out the errors Holyoke had at the start of the game.

The girls settled in and played better for a nice win in the third set. The coach said Kristin Vieselmeyer really helped to turn the momentum in Holyoke’s favor.
