Girls swim team announces honors

Holyoke High School swim team met at Brewed Awakening Coffee and Bake Shop on March 16 to present awards and celebrate another successful state performance.
The team was coached by Aly Brinkema and Adria Colver. Letters were awarded to juniors Traeli Hutches, Lali Marquez and Jacqueline Valenzuela; sophomores Demiah Hernandez, Amy Mackay, Rylee Schneller and Haley Van Overbeke; and freshmen Eva Kramer, Josie Schlachter and Danielle Wilkening.
Holyoke took five events to finals at the 2019 Girls 3A State Swimming Championships. Schneller brought home the team’s first state medal since Brinkema’s own finals swim in 2001, placing 10th in the 100-meter breaststroke. The medley relay team — made up of Hutches, Schneller, Marquez and Van Overbeke — placed 12th overall, and the four also placed 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Schneller placed 19th in the 200-yard individual medley and Marquez placed 20th in the 100-yard butterfly.
