Golf practice in full swing

Boys golf season starts with a bang as opening day of practice was Monday, Aug. 5, and the team enters a varsity-only tourney in Brush Thursday, Aug. 8.

Returning letterwinners at Monday’s practice included senior Mason King and sophomores Mason Vernon and Tristen Ferguson.

Other team members are sophomore Ethan Johnson and freshmen Ty Dirks, Jadon Frost, Cooper Goldenstein, Dylan Hielscher, Jaxson Hutches, Brendan Nelson and Ethan Schneller.

Coach Nick Flaa has served as girls golf coach in Holyoke for five years, but this is his first year at the helm of the boys’ program. David Mauler will serve as assistant coach.

Right off the bat, Flaa noted the difference in weather from the girls’ spring season when the snow is often flying to the boys’ fall season. “I’m super excited. It’s so much easier to learn when the weather is nice.”
