Golfers compete well in Wray, Yuma

Holyoke girls golf team went from having a gap of over two weeks between tournaments to playing three in five days.

They competed in the Wray Invitational on Friday, May 21. The Yuma Invite, originally scheduled for Tuesday, May 18, was postponed until Monday, May 24, due to weather. The girls then traveled to Burlington on Tuesday, May 25.

Coach Nick Flaa said they’ve really been emphasizing finding a reliable shot with short irons like a 9-iron and pitching wedge to attack greens from the 100-yard range.

“A quality shot from that range can make up for a poor shot or two prior,” Flaa said. “If we can execute that, coupled with some solid chipping and putting, we are going to see some results on the scorecard.”
