Golfers open at Brush Invitational

Holyoke High School’s varsity boys golf team that finished the 2019 season started off for the Dragons in HHS’s first contest this year in the Brush Invite Thursday, Aug. 6.

In the 11-team tourney, the Dragons finished eighth with a 313. Ty Dirks led HHS, turning in a 99 to tie for 26th, while Mason Vernon shot a 100 for 28th place in a field of 45 golfers. Ethan Johnson carded a 114 and Tristen Ferguson 115 for the day.

Coach Nick Flaa said the foursome spoke about how much more comfortable they were on the course this year, as compared to last.

The results were fair, even from the local golfers’ perspective, Flaa said. “But the level of confidence going into the event had a different feeling since a year ago.
